Maida Vale
Maida Vale is a largely residential area made up of the northern part of Paddington, is west of St John’s Wood and forms part of the great city of Westminster. Buying or renting in Maida Vale means you’re not only in an extremely well thought of and affluent area, but are surrounded by many large and well-kept Edwardian and late Victoria mansion flats.
In 1806 the British fought a battle in Maida, Italy and a pub then opened on the Edgware Road called the Hero of Maida, the name caught on and Maida Vale & Little Venice were born.
Development of the area began in the 1840’s and beautiful stucco fronted houses along side Victorian properties, grand mansion blocks, and even now house boats all combine to create a vibrant and cosmopolitan neighborhood well served with bars, restaurants, and specialist shops, parks and schools.
The area also benefits from wonderful period mansions blocks featuring grand flats with a hidden secret to most. They have huge communal gardens that are a hidden treasure and a big selling point. Communities and friends and made here:
Areas of Beauty
Maida Vale is connected to the South of London via a great canal which boasts a number of houseboats and is popular throughout the year and especially during the summer months. Much of the rest of Maida Vale sports stately wide avenues which are tree lined and look majestic all year around. Well-kept communal gardens and many of the previously mentioned mansion blocks, often built in matching red brick, all add to the stature of the area and as such buying or renting in Maida Vale is a dream opportunity for many people as the area has much to recommend it.
History & Canals
Little Venice, a name coined by the world-renowned poet, Robert Browning according to some (and Lord Byron according to others) is the area which includes the streets of Warwick Crescent, Maida Avenue and Bloomfield Road, all of which overlook “Browning’s Pool”. The almost affectionate name has been extended over time to include a larger stretch of the canal-side areas and a popular water bus operates from this area to Regent’s Park, stopping at the well-known London Zoo and ending at Camden town. It is safe to say that the canal is very much a part of the daily life around Maida Vale and Little Venice.
Transport Links / The Famous
Possibly due to the strong transport links the area has or perhaps due to the fact that Maida Vale is just a pretty and well-built area, many celebrities have chosen at one time or another to make their homes there. The lists of VIPs who lived or live at Maida Vale include Sir Alec Guinness, Joan Collins, Ruth Rendell and Jennifer Saunders amongst many others.
Things To Do / Schools & Higher Education
With excellent transport links, many opportunities for socialising, sports, and more, Maida Vale and Little Venice are indeed prime areas for buying or renting property. Westminster LEA have jurisdiction over the area’s educational needs and boast popular and high achieving schools in the area. Whether the choice to look into renting in Maida Vale is due to work commitments or the possibility of a new lifestyle to suit individual needs, it is safe to say that this area has everything you could possibly want.
